Introduction to Theory of Constraints (TOC) Logistical Solutions
In the Theory of Constraints (TOC), there are three main logistical solutions:
These solutions, though often implemented separately, may many times need to be implemented into a more integrated solution by combining two or all three of them. Many do not understand the individual power of each solution, let alone their combined power. The two-day seminar, Introduction to TOC Logistical Solutions, uses the Five Focusing Steps of TOC to introduce and explain each of the three logistical applications, first in a “standalone” environment and, then, integrated with other logistical solutions. Starting with TOC Production, the participant is introduced to the problems common to most production environments and learns to apply the Five Focusing Steps using a simulated production environment. Following this, the participant is introduced to the basics of TOC Project Management and how it alleviates the problems common to most multi-project organizations, once again using the framework of the Five Focusing Steps. Once they have sufficient understanding of the TOC Production and TOC Project Management solutions in isolation, the participants learn the implications of integrating the two in each of two environments: the first, where production is subordinated to the project management schedule and, the second, where project management is subordinated to the production schedule. The third Logistical Solution, TOC Market Demand-PullSM is then covered in a similar manner to the other two individual solutions. The Production Solution and TOC Market Demand-PullSM are then discussed as an integrated supply chain solution. At the end of the seminar, the participants learn the overall implementation approach for any TOC logistical solution in the context of important issues that must be addressed, whether the solutions are to be implemented individually or in an integrated manner.
